For those of you that know me, you know that I'm always doing something, or starting a new project. I like to be busy. I enjoy being useful. I thrive on having something to plan and having a plan to execute. Having tasks and projects and work has been especially useful to me in the last several weeks.
Duff and I have talked endlessly about things to do to remember and memorialize Izzy. We have decided to start a charity in her name, to help other families that have lost children. Currently in our area the closest support groups for parents who have lost children are in Quincy, Springfield, St. Louis and Chicago. There is a group in Rushville but they are not currently very active. We would like to change that.
We are fortunate enough to have family, friends and wonderful employers who helped us have the money for funeral expenses and medical bills. We are also fortunate enough to have insurance with a relatively low annual out of pocket maximum. We recognize that all to often others are not so lucky. We want to change that.
We are in the process of setting up her website and making the plans and steps necessary to set this in motion. It has been helpful to both of us to remember what Clayton said during Izzy's service. Good has come to the Duffy family in spite of this. Good will continue to come to the Duffy family, we are all just going to have to look a little harder to find it.
