Abbey and Blanket Chapter 4

"It's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair." Blanket was chanting this over and over while jumping on Abbey on her bed. He was mad that they were in bed while it was still fairly light outside. It was a school night, and The Mommy said it was actually past their bedtime at 8:30, but Blanket had been washed today, and he was always very cranky and irritable when one of The Parents managed to get him into the washing machine. This time, Abbey had volunteered him for a bath as he had insisted on eating most of her chocolate milk shake and had gotten very dirty and sticky.
"Please will you be quiet, I'm actually kind of tired and not at all unhappy to be going to bed, in case you hadn't noticed, I have been very busy lately." Abbey said, turning on her side and closing her eyes. She wasn't overly optimistic that Blanket would give up, but it was worth a try. "Shhh, I think I hear the Parents coming, they're probably going to bed."
"You know, your parents must be weird, they go to bed right after you guys do. Are they older than normal parents? When we go to Lily's house, her parents stay up much later. I can hear them laughing and having fun after they make you guys go to sleep." Blanket asked, peering around the door watching The Parents go to their room for bed. "Do you think they're going to watch something good? Last night they watched basketball. Lame. Let's hope they turn on River Monsters, it's so fascinating the way he's always in mortal peril. NCIS would be okay, but we've seen almost all of them, so it's beginning to get a little dull. But for the love of ice cream, let's hope they don't turn on the news." Blanket was forever sneaking out to watch The Parent's TV from the safety of the hallway. He'd never been caught, but she was sure he would be at some point.
Abbey could hear The Parent's talking, so Blanket wouldn't be getting to watch TV anytime soon. If they were talking still at this time of night, they'd be awake for a while, and they'd notice movement in the hallway.
"Shhhh, can you hear what they're saying?" Blanket was straining to catch their conversation. He liked to eavesdrop, he said it was the only way to really find out what was going on. "Oh, they're talking about the Llama administration. Your mom said that it was pretty unfair that they were made fun of taking the tourists to court, but that when they stepped up and took one out, like Bush then they were made fun of for that too?"
"What?" Abbey rolled over and looked at Blanket. "That did not make any sense. Llamas do not have the ability to speak, organize let alone have an administration. And who is taking tourists to court? I think usually tourists are appreciated for their willingness to spend money on dumb magnets and keychains."
"Shh, now your Dad said that he agrees with the Llama's decision to step up and act like a commando, but that he's still not qualified to be the commander of sheep. Wait, that doesn't make sense. Sheep are pretty bossy, I don't think they have a commander. Remember when we tried to feed them at the farm and they ran us over. I'd say they need a commander, but it doesn't sound like this Llama is the one for the job. It's quiet. Do you think they're going to sleep. I'm gonna go look." And with that, Blanket darted out the door.
"Abigail, I hear your blanket rubbing on the walls, why are you out of bed? It's a school night, please go back to bed."
As Blanket slunk back into the room, Abbey growled, "I think I may send you to live with the sheep."
