Zany Princess Madeline Chapter 3

"I'm tired of playing with Abigail. She never wants to play anything but babies and school, babies and school. Ugh, she's such a baby." Princess Madeline stomped her feet and crossed her arms. She was staring at the Queen Mommy. This was a complaint she'd had many times, and the Queen Mommy never took her seriously. It was always, "be nice to your sister, she'll be there when no one else will" and "why can't you be nice to Princess Abbey like you are to your friends?" and "absolutely no tattling unless you're bleeding." So what was she supposed to do when Abbey refused to do the dances that Princess Madeline spent her time making up. Not fair.
"Madeline, if you don't want to play the games that Abbey wants to play, then wait patiently. Find something to do. Play your DS, read a book, clean your room. There are a million things to do." The Queen Mommy was washing dishes and wasn't looking in Madeline's direction. Typical. She was always busy. Meetings and work and Princess Scouts and doing stuff with her friends. Busy busy busy.
"Lame. All that stuff is lame-o. No one plays by themselves. What is the point in having a sister if she's not going to be around to play with. I'm sick of her."
"Okay, I get it, so instead of standing here complaining, why don't you go do something about it. Get your stuff ready for tomorrow. You're going to dance early in the morning, so get your dance bag ready and put in the clothes you're going to wear to school."
Princess Madeline turned around and stomped out of the kitchen. She stomped across the living room. Her little dog Sally followed her but Princess Madeline ignored her and stomped upstairs. She went up to her room. Great. Her dance bag was still in the car. She went all the way back downstairs and out to the car. Why can't her mom ever remember to carry Princess Madeline's stuff in from the car. Is is really that hard, to be responsible and carry your daughter's stuff inside so she doesn't have to go all the way out and get it? Geez.
The zany and now cranky Princess Madeline reentered the house and yelled towards the kitchen, "That's fine, don't worry, I have my bag. I'll go get it packed now."
She paused at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for a response. Waiting. Nothing. She stomped up the stairs one more time. She got to her room and started looking for her dance clothes. And looking. She found her pink camoflage booty shorts, but she couldn't find a tank top. She dug through the drawers, and then through the clean laundry basket and found a white one with polka dots. Sweet, she could wear it for dance and then just change her shorts for school. The Queen Mommy said it was going to be hot, so this would be great.
"Mommy, I can't find 2 tank tops, so I'm just wearing the same one for dance and school." Madeline yelled down the stairs.
The Queen Mommy came to the bottom of the stairs. "How many times have I told you not to scream at me from the upstairs. Come down and talk to me. Let me see the tank top."
Princess Madeline held up the tank top for Mommy to see.
"Madeline, you can't wear that, it's an undershirt, you are supposed to wear that under another shirt. What about one of your other shirts?"
"I don't have any others, and this isn't an under shirt, it has dots, see, and shirts with patterns are meant to be seen. If this was an undershirt it would be plain. I don't like the light pink tank top because it squeezes and squeezes, I don't like the dark pink tank top because you can see my nipples, and I'm not wearing the dance dance dance tank top to school. It's for dance."
"Fine, let's go look and see. I bet we can find something."
The Queen Mommy went upstairs and spent the next 10 minutes going through all of Madelines clothes. She found 3 more tank tops but by now, Madeline was too mad to agree to anything. So the Queen Mommy took all the clothes Madeline rejected and gave them to Princess Abbey. Great, now she'd have to talk Abbey into giving them back.
"Now, Princess Madeline, if you can't pull it together, and agree to wear something that doesn't make you look like a hobo, then I will pick out your clothes and you'll wear what I pick out. If you aren't a fan of that idea then suck it up and be happy with the 92 hundred articles of clothing in this room."
"I won't, it's all lame. I picked out lots of clothes that I like and just because you're too old to appreciate coolness, doesn't mean that I look like a hobo. My style is cute and everyone says how cute I am. So there. I will not wear what you pick out." she folded her arms across her chest and glared at the Queen Mommy.
"Okay, have it your way. You have just earned the right to go to bed. Now."
Princess Madeline laid in bed and closed her eyes. Maybe she was tired. It was a long day, she could just rest her eyes for a minute.
When she opened them, she found herself standing next to the gurgling purple brook. Today the grass was pink and the sky was sunshine yellow. Lavendar the unicorn was eating, again, and there were small pink flowers braided into his mane and tail.
"You know, most boys I know wouldn't be caught dead with flowers braided in their hair." Princess Madeline said as she walked toward her new friend.
"You know, most Princesses I know have much better manners." Lavendar said without looking up at Madeline.
"Ugh, what did you do, have a chat with my mom? That sounded just like her. She's so annoying. Always telling me what to do and what to wear and how to act. When I grow up and have kids, I'll never tell them what to do. I'll let them be their own person. That's what I'll do." Madeline kicked at the grass.
Lavendar looked at Princess Madeline from the corner of his eye and kept chewing. "Have you ever thought about listening to your mom, she is after all very old and maybe a little smart? I've heard that old people accumulate smartness, so maybe she has some. And if you didn't yell at her, maybe you wouldn't get in trouble."
Princess Madeline thought about what Lavendar said. He probably had a point. Not that she'd tell him that. She walked and chased him for a while and they played a great game of tag with some of his friends that showed up later. She finally decided it was time to go home, and when she closed her eyes and opened them again, the Queen Mommy was tucking her under the covers and covering her up with her favorite blanket, Pooh.
"Good night Mommy, I think I'm tired, and I'm sorry for being so dramatic."
"I love you Zany Princess Madeline. Sleep tight and we'll figure it all out tomorrow."
