"This is sweet! What do you want to do with the money? Should we buy a car? Oh no wait, I know let's go to Fun City for a month. That's a perfect way to spend the money?" Blanket was leaning forward looking at Abbey with that all too familiar gleam in his eye.
Abbey rolled her eyes. Blanket was nuts. "You do know that we get like 5 dollars for a tooth not 500 hundred."
Blanket fell off the bed. "Are you for real? You spent like 7 years growing that tooth, brushing it, taking care of it, making sure that you didn't crack it on lollipops, and all you get is 5 lousy dollars? Geez. Someone should tell the tooth fairy that he is a cheap skate. Okay, so I guess we'll get some gum. Yay."
Abbey finished getting ready for bed, she put on her pajamas and brushed her teeth. When she went back to her room, Blanket was peering under her pillow where she had already put the small treasure chest which was holding her tooth. "Please put that back, it has to be under the pillow to be collected by the tooth fairy."
"What for? Why does the tooth fairy need the teeth, what does he do with them?" as Blanket talked, he was waving around the chest. Then it all went wrong at once. It seemed like things were moving in slow motion and Abbey saw the chest open and the tooth fly out in an arc and bounce off the wall behind her bed and slide down the wall. Behind and under the bed. Where all the barbie shoes had been lost. Where the bucket of Polly Pockets were. Where she might never be able to find the tooth again.
"No! What did you do? Have you completely lost your mind? I don't have extra teeth to leave for the tooth fairy? That was the first one. You are such a pain sometimes." Abbey got down on her hands and knees and started pulling things out from under the bed. "We are never going to find this, get down here and start looking. You lost it, you have to at least help."
"Wait, stop, I have an idea. You have tic tacs, just put one in your mouth and suck it down to about the correct size and we'll put that in the box. The tooth fairy will never know, it's not like he's going to put it in his mouth, I'm sure they just go straight into a pile, or bag, or maybe a necklace. I'm not sure. I guess maybe that's where your great-grans fake teeth could have come from, but who knows."
Abbey stopped searching the carpet and looked at Blanket. "Are you serious? A tic tac? For starters, I have orange tic tacs. And just because the tooth fairy is looking in the dark, doesn't mean we can fool him with a tic tac. And besides, I heard he has night vision goggles, so we definitely don't have poor vision on our side."
Blanket hopped off the bed and got down on the floor next to Abbey. He actually was helping to look. For about 5 minutes until he heard the music for Phineas and Ferb, and then he hopped up and got back on the bed. Abbey looked for the tooth for about 10 more minutes until The Daddy walked by and said, "What are you doing under your bed?"
"Well, Daddy, I put my tooth under the bed, but then Blanket was looking at it because he doesn't have any teeth you know and then we was swinging it around while he was talking, and it flew out of the box and behind and under my bed, and I've been looking for it, but I can't find it and I don't want to use a tic tac for my tooth, and it's my first tooth and I really want to find it. Blanket was helping but now he's just laying there, and it's all his fault."
The Daddy looked at Abbey and then he put his hands over his face and stared at the ceiling. "Abigail, I will help you look, but why in sweet heaven would you play with your tooth, it's not like you have extra to just pop out."
Abbey swiped Blanket off the bed and whispered in his ear, "you should know that I can see pretty well in the dark, I know how to use scissors, and you always fall asleep before I do."
