It's friday. I don't work today. Ever. Yes, I know I'm insanely lucky to only have a 4 day work week. You hate me, I get it, moving on.
It's also the end of teacher appreciation week. My daycare center is marvelous enough to coordinate fantastic theme days for us parents to appreciate the teachers who wrangle the children day in and day out. I find myself exhausted by one little boy, they manage 20 all day every day. The feed them and wipe their butts and noses, tell them not to wipe boogers on their friends, and they do so in good humor 5 days a week. They are amazing and I love them.
However. I'm not together enough to match the socks in my laundry on a regular basis, so I fail to remember that Tuesday is "You're so sweet to me" day and to bring candy in for the teachers. I mean to. I do. I swear. It's just not in my genetic makeup.
So I'm at walmart today buying: Funny thank you notes for Monday. Candy for "You're so sweet to me" Tuesday. Fruit for "You're the apple of my eye" Wednesday. A beverage for "You quench my thirst for knowledge" Thursday and a candle for "You light up my life" Friday. I have assembled them into gift bags, and I'm good to go. And it occurs to me that really, we ought to have an after hours themed teacher appreciation week. Here are my suggestions.
Monday-"Thank you for everything you do" Write thank you notes for the teachers that are honest. "Thank you for being there to allow me to escape the constant questioning of the 3 year old. I would have gone slowly mad and be sitting in a corner humming and braiding the cats hair if I didn't get to go to an office with adults."
Tuesday-"You're so sweet to me" Bring in sweets for the teachers, because you can't give them adult beverages during the work day. It's frowned upon.
Wednesday- "You're the apple of my eye" Don't bring in anything this day, let the teacher know that you're going to combine wednesday and thursday.
Thursday- "You quench my thirst for knowledge" Put some fruity adult beverages in cleverly disguised bags, and leave them on the teacher's cars so they can find them at the end of the day. Wine is made with grapes people. It's basically juice.
Friday- "You light up my life" I suspect this one is always on Friday because this is the morning that everyone can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's nearly the weekend, and they can see escape on the horizon. On this day, providing teachers, who've survived a week of little people en masse, with incendiary devices is not the best idea, so you put together a weekend enjoyment kit, see Thursday's list for ideas, but they're going to need more than one bottle.

Hahaha yessss I'm so in on this one! If it were up to me to get the gifts they'd all just get one thank you note at the end of the week. And by "the week" I mean "the week I remember it, two months later."
